The objective of this study is to develop and validate Brillouin based hydration mapping as a diagnostic tool to quantify water content in the cornea across healthy individuals and patients with diverse ocular conditions. Our central hypothesis is that spatially resolved Brillouin frequency shifts can reveal disease-specific hydration profiles that are not detectable through conventional thickness-based methods. This hypothesis is based on recent evidence from our group demonstrating that Brillouin microscopy is sensitive to hydration. The rationale for this research is that Brillouin-based hydration maps will offer an unprecedented, morphology-independent metric of corneal fluid balance, which could improve clinical decision-making in a range of pathologies.","Aim 1 - Control Group (Healthy Subjects) : 10 subjects per 6 age ranges (20-29yr, 30-39yr, 40-49yr, 50-59yr, 60-69yr, 70-79yr), total 60 subjects\n\nAim 2 - Patient Groups : 20 patients per 6 diseases (Moderate Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy, Early-stage isolated corneal guttae, Primary open-angle glaucoma, Dry eye disease, Keratoconus, post-LASIK), total 120 patients.",[20,23],{"label":21,"type":13,"description":22,"interventionNames":13},"Control Group","Healthy Subjects",{"label":24,"type":13,"description":25,"interventionNames":13},"Patient Group","Patient Subjects (Fuch's endothelial dystrophy, Corneal guttae, Open-angle glaucoma, Dry eye disease, Keratoconus, post-LASIK)",[27],{"name":28,"affiliation":29,"role":30},"Seok-Hyun Yun, PhD","Massachusetts General Brigham","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[32,37],{"name":33,"role":34,"phone":35,"phoneExt":13,"email":36},"Soyeon (Selina) Ahn, PhD","CONTACT","3396009736","sahn14@mgh.harvard.edu",{"name":28,"role":34,"phone":38,"phoneExt":13,"email":39},"6177688704","syun@mgh.harvard.edu",[41],{"facility":29,"status":42,"city":43,"state":44,"zip":45,"country":46,"countryCode":47,"cosmosGeoPoint":48,"geoPoint":53,"contacts":54},"RECRUITING","Boston","Massachusetts","02114","United States","US",{"type":49,"coordinates":50},"Point",[51,52],-71.05977,42.35843,{"lat":52,"lon":51},[55,56,57],{"name":33,"role":34,"phone":35,"phoneExt":13,"email":36},{"name":28,"role":34,"phone":38,"phoneExt":13,"email":39},{"name":28,"role":58,"phone":13,"phoneExt":13,"email":13},"SUB_INVESTIGATOR",{"type":30,"investigatorFullName":60,"investigatorTitle":61,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":13,"oldOrganization":13},"Seok Hyun Yun","Professor",[63,65],{"name":64,"class":6},"Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary",{"name":66,"class":67},"National Eye Institute (NEI)","NIH","100652985","a-study-to-assess-brillouin-hydration-mapping-for-the-evaluation-of-ocular-tissues-and-diseases-100652985",false,"NCT07780890","A Study to Assess Brillouin Hydration Mapping for the Evaluation of Ocular Tissues and Diseases","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Healthy volunteers with normal eyes\n* Visual acuity between +2 to -6 diopters\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* History of refractive or cataract surgery\n* History of ocular disease\n* Active non-ophthalmic systemic disease",true,"ALL","20 Years","79 Years",{"count":79,"type":80},90,"ESTIMATED","OBSERVATIONAL","The overall goal of this study is to develop Brillouin microscope as a novel tool for measuring biomechanical and hydration properties of human tissues in vivo.",[84,85,86,87,88],"Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dysfunction","Open Angle Glaucoma (OAG)","Dry Eye Disease (DED)","Keratoconus","Lasik Eye Surgery",[90,91,92],"cornea","biomechanics","brillouin microscopy","2026-08-21",{"date":95,"type":96},"2026-08-25","ACTUAL",{"date":98,"type":96},"2026-08-18",{"date":100,"type":80},"2027-09-01",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
