The incidence of DTC has increased worldwide, largely due to improved detection of thyroid nodules with high-resolution ultrasonography and the widespread use of fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).\n\nThe Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology classifies thyroid cytology into six diagnostic categories, each associated with a specific risk of malignancy and recommended clinical management. While the Bethesda classification is useful for predicting the likelihood of malignancy, its relationship with postoperative prognosis and risk stratification remains less clear.\n\nAfter thyroidectomy, patients are stratified according to the American Thyroid Association (ATA) risk stratification system into low-, intermediate-, and high-risk categories. Understanding the association between the preoperative Bethesda category and postoperative ATA risk stratification may improve early prognostic assessment and help optimize treatment and follow-up strategies.\n\nThis observational study will examine the relationship between preoperative Bethesda classification and postoperative ATA risk stratification in patients with histopathologically confirmed differentiated thyroid carcinoma.","Adult patients with histopathologically confirmed differentiated thyroid carcinoma who underwent preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology and are followed at the Nuclear Medicine Unit, Assiut University Hospitals.",[28],{"label":29,"type":22,"description":26,"interventionNames":22},"Patients with Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma",[31],{"name":32,"affiliation":33,"role":34},"Taha M Zaky, prof","Nuclear Medicine Unit, Department of Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, Assiut University","STUDY_CHAIR",[36],{"name":37,"role":38,"phone":39,"phoneExt":40,"email":41},"Alia M Kenawy, resident","CONTACT","0 10 97551147","022","Aliaaliayyy@gmail.com",{"type":43,"investigatorFullName":44,"investigatorTitle":45,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":22,"oldOrganization":22},"PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR","Alia Mohamed Kenawy Rezk","Resident of Nuclear Medicine","100659025","bethesda-classification-and-risk-stratification-in-differentiated-thyroid-carcinoma-100659025",false,"NCT07858097","Bethesda Classification and Risk Stratification in Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma","Relationship Between Preoperative Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (Bethesda Classification) and Postoperative Risk Stratification in Patients With Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Age ≥ 18 years\n* Available preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC)\n* Postoperative histopathologically confirmed differentiated thyroid carcinoma\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma\n* Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma\n* Medullary thyroid carcinoma\n* Non-diagnostic FNAC (Bethesda category I)\n* Inadequate follow-up data","ALL","18 Years",{"count":56,"type":57},100,"ESTIMATED","6 Months","OBSERVATIONAL","This observational study aims to evaluate the relationship between preoperative Bethesda classification of fine-needle aspiration cytology and postoperative American Thyroid Association (ATA) risk stratification in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma.",[62,63,64],"Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma","Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma","Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma",[66,67,68,69,70,71],"Bethesda classification","Fine-needle aspiration cytology","FNAC","ATA risk stratification","Differentiated thyroid cancer","Thyroid nodules","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-09-29",{"date":75,"type":76},"2026-10-05","ACTUAL",{"date":78,"type":57},"2026-10-26",{"date":80,"type":57},"2028-03-20",{"name":5,"class":6}]
