Chest radiography, the standard first-line imaging test, has limited sensitivity, whereas ultra-low-dose CT (ULDCT) offers higher diagnostic accuracy at a comparable radiation dose. The staff person-time implications of substituting ULDCT for radiography in emergency department workflow are unknown.\n\nObjective: To quantify and compare total staff person-time per imaging episode between conventional chest radiography (CXR) and ULDCT in adult emergency department patients in whom CAP is a differential diagnosis.\n\nMethods: Single-centre, two-period observational time-and-motion study at the emergency department of Southern Jutland Hospital - Aabenraa. The CXR arm was collected from 2025 to June 2027; the ULDCT arm is collected from September 2026. The primary outcome is cumulative staff person-minutes per imaging episode, combining electronic radiology-system timestamps with stopwatch-measured in-room occupancy time. The primary analysis is a Mann-Whitney U test with a bootstrapped confidence interval for the difference in medians, supplemented by adjusted quantile regression.","Patients from Emergency Department from Hospital Sonderjylland, Aabenraa, Denmark.",[37],{"label":38,"type":30,"description":39,"interventionNames":40},"X-Ray","Conventional chest radiography",[41],"Other: ULDCT",[43],{"type":6,"name":44,"description":45,"armGroupLabels":46,"otherNames":30},"ULDCT","Time used to complete the radiographic procedure",[38],[48],{"facility":49,"status":50,"city":51,"state":30,"zip":52,"country":53,"countryCode":54,"cosmosGeoPoint":55,"geoPoint":60,"contacts":61},"Hospital Sønderjylland","RECRUITING","Aabenraa","6200","Denmark","DK",{"type":56,"coordinates":57},"Point",[58,59],9.41741,55.04434,{"lat":59,"lon":58},[62],{"name":63,"role":64,"phone":65,"phoneExt":30,"email":66},"Mariana B Cartuliares","CONTACT","+45 21659882","mbc@rsyd.dk",{"type":68,"investigatorFullName":30,"investigatorTitle":30,"investigatorAffiliation":30,"oldNameTitle":30,"oldOrganization":30},"SPONSOR","100659952","chest-radiography-versus-ultra-low-dose-chest-computed-tomography-in-adults-in-the-emergency-department-100659952",false,"NCT07870525","Chest Radiography Versus Ultra-Low-Dose Chest Computed Tomography in Adults in the Emergency Department","Human-Resource Utilisation of Conventional Chest Radiography Versus Ultra-Low-Dose Chest Computed Tomography for Suspected Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Adults in the Emergency Department","TIME-CAP","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients presenting to the emergency department during daytime weekday hours in whom CAP is a differential diagnosis, and who are able to undergo the assigned imaging examination.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients requiring immediate imaging for a critical condition (for example suspected pneumothorax).\n* Bariatric patients exceeding the technical limits of the scanner\n* Pregnancy\n* Patients requiring additional imaging beyond the chest (for example abdominal CT)\n* Severe dementia, or need for sedation to complete imaging\n* Patients requiring mechanical ventilation.\n* Patients requiring accompaniment by medical staff during transport","ALL","18 Years",{"count":80,"type":81},66,"ESTIMATED","OBSERVATIONAL","Objective: To quantify and compare total staff person-time per imaging episode betweenconventional chest radiography (CXR) and ULDCT in adult emergency department patients in whom CAP is a differential diagnosis.",[85],"Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP)",[87,88,44,89,90],"pneumonia","ultra-low-dose CT","Chest Xray","Emergency Department","2026-10-07",{"date":93,"type":94},"2026-10-13","ACTUAL",{"date":96,"type":94},"2025-01-29",{"date":98,"type":81},"2027-06",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
