All former preterm infants randomized in the parent study will be approached for reconsent into this follow-up study. Investigartors will determine if eCPAP for stable preterm infants in the NICU results in sustained improvement of lung function (primary outcome spirometry) and less respiratory morbidity (wheeze), at school age. Investigators will determine if eCPAP in the NICU results in an airway tree with a larger cross- sectional area and greater lung volume at school age, which is associated with less respiratory morbidity. Additionally, investigators will obtain detailed biological data (DNA methylation and transcriptomics using nasal epithelium as a proxy for airway epithelium), to identify participants that share common molecular signatures (biological endotypes).","This is an observational follow-up study of former preterm infants who participated in the randomized clinical trial extended CPAP \"parent study.\"",[28,33],{"label":29,"type":21,"description":30,"interventionNames":31},"eCPAP","Group that was assigned to Extended CPAP (eCPAP)",[32],"Other: Extended CPAP (eCPAP)",{"label":34,"type":21,"description":35,"interventionNames":21},"dCPAP","Group that was assigned to discontinue CPAP (dCPAP)",[37],{"type":6,"name":38,"description":39,"armGroupLabels":40,"otherNames":41},"Extended CPAP (eCPAP)","Assigned to two extra weeks of CPAP",[29],[42],"Treatment length",[44],{"name":45,"affiliation":5,"role":46},"Cynthia McEvoy, MD, MCR","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[48,52],{"name":45,"role":49,"phone":50,"phoneExt":21,"email":51},"CONTACT","503-494-0085","mcevoyc@ohsu.edu",{"name":53,"role":49,"phone":54,"phoneExt":21,"email":55},"Kristin Milner, CMA, BS, CCRP","971-278-3345","milner@ohsu.edu",{"type":57,"investigatorFullName":58,"investigatorTitle":59,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":21,"oldOrganization":21},"SPONSOR_INVESTIGATOR","Cynthia McEvoy","MD, MCR, Professor of Pediatrics",[61,64,66],{"name":62,"class":63},"National Institutes of Health (NIH)","NIH",{"name":65,"class":63},"National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)",{"name":67,"class":6},"Indiana University","100659064","ecpap-follow-up-at-school-age-100659064",false,"NCT07860931","eCPAP Follow-up at School Age","Extending Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (eCPAP) in Preterm Infants to Improve Long Term Lung Growth and Reduce Respiratory Morbidity at School Age: Follow-up of a Randomized Trial","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Children randomized in the parent study\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* None","ALL",{"count":77,"type":78},95,"ESTIMATED","OBSERVATIONAL","The purpose of the study is to learn more about extended continuous positive airway pressure (eCPAP) in preterm infants that may be helpful for lung health.
