Acupressure is a non-invasive complementary therapy that may reduce postoperative pain and improve recovery.\n\nThis prospective, randomized, sham-controlled, three-arm clinical trial will enroll 90 adult patients undergoing elective laparoscopic TEP inguinal hernia repair.\n\nParticipants will be randomly allocated in a 1:1:1 ratio into:\n\n* Control group: Standard postoperative care only.\n* Acupressure group: Standard postoperative care plus bilateral acupressure applied at P6 (Neiguan), LI4 (Hegu), ST36 (Zusanli), and SP6 (Sanyinjiao).\n* Sham acupressure group: Standard postoperative care plus pressure applied to non-acupuncture points.\n\nEach intervention will be administered at postoperative hours 1, 4, and 8. Pressure will be applied manually for approximately 3 minutes at each point bilaterally by trained personnel.\n\nPain intensity will be evaluated using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) at predetermined postoperative time points. Secondary outcomes include total analgesic consumption, incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, time to mobilization, patient satisfaction, and postoperative complications.\n\nThe study is designed to determine whether true acupressure provides additional benefit beyond standard care and whether its effects differ from sham acupressure, thereby distinguishing specific therapeutic effects from placebo responses.",[41,45,51],{"label":42,"type":43,"description":44,"interventionNames":27},"Control","NO_INTERVENTION","Participants receive standard postoperative care without acupressure.",{"label":46,"type":47,"description":48,"interventionNames":49},"Acupressure","EXPERIMENTAL","Participants receive standard postoperative care plus true acupressure at bilateral P6, LI4, ST36, and SP6 points for 3 minutes per point at postoperative 1, 4, and 8 hours.",[50],"Procedure: Acupressure",{"label":52,"type":53,"description":54,"interventionNames":55},"Sham Acupressure","SHAM_COMPARATOR","Participants receive standard postoperative care plus sham acupressure at non-acupoint locations with the same duration and schedule as the acupressure group.",[56],"Procedure: Sham Acupressure",[58,62],{"type":59,"name":46,"description":60,"armGroupLabels":61,"otherNames":27},"PROCEDURE","Bilateral acupressure is applied at P6, LI4, ST36, and SP6 for 3 minutes per point at postoperative 1, 4, and 8 hours.",[46],{"type":59,"name":52,"description":63,"armGroupLabels":64,"otherNames":27},"Manual pressure is applied to non-acupuncture points using the same duration and schedule as the active acupressure intervention.",[52],[66],{"name":67,"role":68,"phone":69,"phoneExt":27,"email":70},"AHMET S YAZ, MD","CONTACT","+902165783000","ahmet.yaz@std.medipol.edu.tr",[72],{"facility":73,"status":74,"city":75,"state":75,"zip":76,"country":77,"countryCode":27,"cosmosGeoPoint":78,"geoPoint":83,"contacts":27},"Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital","RECRUITING","Istanbul","34752","Turkey (Türkiye)",{"type":79,"coordinates":80},"Point",[81,82],28.94966,41.01384,{"lat":82,"lon":81},{"type":85,"investigatorFullName":86,"investigatorTitle":87,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":27,"oldOrganization":27},"PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR","ahmet said yaz","Principal investigator",[89],{"name":73,"class":6},"100653511","effect-of-acupressure-on-postoperative-pain-after-laparoscopic-totally-extraperitoneal-inguinal-hernia-repair-100653511",false,"NCT07787871","Effect of Acupressure on Postoperative Pain After Laparoscopic Totally Extraperitoneal Inguinal Hernia Repair","The Effect of Acupressure on Postoperative Pain After Laparoscopic Totally Extraperitoneal Inguinal Hernia Repair: A Prospective Three-Arm Randomized Sham-Controlled Clinical Trial","TEP-AP","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Adults aged 18 to 75 years\n* Diagnosis of a unilateral primary inguinal hernia\n* Scheduled to undergo elective laparoscopic total extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair\n* American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I to III without an anticipated need for postoperative intensive care\n* Ability to understand the study procedures and provide written informed consent\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\nBilateral inguinal hernia\n\n* Recurrent inguinal hernia\n* Strangulated inguinal hernia\n* History of open lower abdominal surgery\n* Skin infection, wound, or surgical scar at any of the acupressure application sites\n* ASA physical status III with an anticipated need for postoperative intensive care\n* ASA physical status IV\n* Participation in another clinical study within the previous 4 weeks\n* Receipt of acupressure or a similar complementary treatment within the previous 4 weeks\n* Refusal or inability to provide written informed consent","ALL","18 Years","75 Years",{"count":102,"type":103},90,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[106],"NA","This randomized, sham-controlled clinical trial aims to evaluate the effect of acupressure on postoperative pain following laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair.\n\nA total of 90 participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: standard postoperative care alone (control group), true acupressure plus standard care, or sham acupressure plus standard care.
