Participants (N=400) will complete an online eligibility form to screen for inclusion and exclusion criteria and advance to a consent process if eligible. Eight nurses recruited from rural communities will receive ER training facilitated by Stanford Pain Relief Innovations Lab. Recruitment will occur through three partnering rural health clinics. Study participants will be asked to complete a baseline survey of demographics and health variables and then randomized to one of two study groups: ER and HE. Participants randomized to the ER group will complete a HIPAA compliant, password protected Zoom ER class delivered by an ER-trained rural nurse instructor. Participants assigned to HE will receive a standardized online self-paced intervention.",[51,57],{"label":52,"type":53,"description":54,"interventionNames":55},"Empowered Relief","EXPERIMENTAL","Participants randomized to the ER group will complete a HIPAA compliant, password protected 2-hour Zoom ER class delivered by an ER-trained registered nurse.",[56],"Behavioral: Pain relief skills training",{"label":58,"type":59,"description":60,"interventionNames":61},"Health Education","ACTIVE_COMPARATOR","Participants randomized to the digital Health Education (HE) Control group will receive an educational intervention similar in time and attention to compare with the experimental treatment group.",[62],"Other: Health Education",[64,69],{"type":65,"name":66,"description":67,"armGroupLabels":68,"otherNames":38},"BEHAVIORAL","Pain relief skills training","Rural RN-delivered psychoeducational pain relief skills group intervention includes development of a personalized plan, downloading a corresponding app for daily and unlimited use, and daily text messages for 90 days..",[52],{"type":6,"name":58,"description":70,"armGroupLabels":71,"otherNames":38},"A digital health education intervention is roughly matched for time, attention, and daily text for 90 days.",[58],[73],{"name":74,"affiliation":75,"role":76},"Beth D Darnall, PhD","Stanford University","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[78,83],{"name":79,"role":80,"phone":81,"phoneExt":38,"email":82},"Marian L Wilson, PhD","CONTACT","509-358-7972","marian.wilson@wsu.edu",{"name":84,"role":80,"phone":85,"phoneExt":38,"email":86},"Ross J Bindler, PharmD","509-358-7987","rossb4@wsu.edu",[88],{"facility":5,"status":38,"city":89,"state":90,"zip":91,"country":92,"countryCode":93,"cosmosGeoPoint":94,"geoPoint":99,"contacts":100},"Spokane","Washington","99202","United States","US",{"type":95,"coordinates":96},"Point",[97,98],-117.42908,47.65966,{"lat":98,"lon":97},[101,102],{"name":79,"role":80,"phone":81,"phoneExt":38,"email":82},{"name":84,"role":80,"phone":85,"phoneExt":38,"email":86},{"type":76,"investigatorFullName":104,"investigatorTitle":105,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":38,"oldOrganization":38},"Marian Wilson","Principal Investigator",[107],{"name":108,"class":109},"National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR)","NIH","100659380","nurse-delivered-brief-pain-relief-skills-treatment-in-rural-communities-100659380",false,"NCT07863375","Nurse-Delivered Brief Pain Relief Skills Treatment in Rural Communities","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* ≥18 years of age; Pain condition with duration ≥ 3 months; Capacity to give informed consent; Able to read, speak, and understand English; Past month average pain intensity score ≥ 4\u002F10 on a 0-10 Numerical Rating Scale\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Cognition found to be moderately or severely impaired on screening; Active suicidality (online screening); Receipt of Empowered Relief or digital Health Education in the past 6 months","ALL","18 Years",{"count":119,"type":120},400,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[123],"NA","The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to learn if a nurse-delivered psychoeducational pain management skills intervention \\[Empowered Relief\\] can improve pain outcomes for adults with chronic pain who live in rural communities The main question\\[s\\] it aims to answer are:\n\nDoes nurse-delivered Empowered Relief improve pain intensity and pain interference more than a health education intervention after 3 months?
