This will be done using prospectively collected respiratory swabs from healthy asymptomatic children undergoing elective pediatric surgery. This will result in a quantifiably proportion of children who test positive for respiratory viruses. This aim will define the epidemiologic baseline of silent viral URIs in children undergoing elective surgery. We can then evaluate the association between asymptomatic viral infections and perioperative respiratory adverse events (PRAEs). A secondary endpoint will be to compare the incidence of PRAE between virus positive patients with and without URI symptoms. This will be done by prospectively enrolling patients who report recent (within 2 weeks) or current URI symptoms.","Patients \\\u003C18 presenting at NCH for elective ambulatory procedures under general anesthesia.\n\n100 patients who are asymptomatic for URI symptoms 200 patients who report recent (within 2 weeks) or current URI symptoms.",[25,30],{"label":26,"type":18,"description":27,"interventionNames":28},"Recent URI patients","Pediatric patients who report recent (within two weeks) or current URI symptoms presenting for surgery",[29],"Diagnostic Test: Mid-turbinate nasal swab",{"label":31,"type":18,"description":32,"interventionNames":33},"Healthy pediatric patients","Healthy pediatric patients without respiratory symptoms scheduled for surgery",[29],[35],{"type":36,"name":37,"description":38,"armGroupLabels":39,"otherNames":18},"DIAGNOSTIC_TEST","Mid-turbinate nasal swab","Mid-turbinate nasal swab for viral testing using a PCR film array test (qRT-PCR).",[31,26],[41],{"name":42,"affiliation":5,"role":43},"Brittany Willer, MD","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[45],{"name":46,"role":47,"phone":48,"phoneExt":18,"email":49},"Catherine Roth","CONTACT","614-722-2997","catherine.roth@nationwidechildrens.org",{"type":51,"investigatorFullName":52,"investigatorTitle":53,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":18,"oldOrganization":18},"SPONSOR_INVESTIGATOR","Brittany Willer","Pediatric Anesthesiologist","100655851","prae-and-asymptomatic-and-symptomatic-uri-patients-100655851",false,"NCT07816822","PRAE and Asymptomatic and Symptomatic URI Patients","Incidence of PRAE on Asymptomatic and Symptomatic URI Surgical Patients","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients \\\u003C18 years of age presenting for elective ambulatory procedures under general anesthesia at NCH.
