It is also a significant pathogenic factor in gastric cancer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), H. pylori is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen. A community-based screening and eradication program in Matsu, Taiwan has shown that active screening and eradication of H. pylori effectively reduced the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer. Currently, there is a lack of basic epidemiological data on the prevalence of H. pylori infection in Palau. This study aims to investigate the prevalence among adults in Palau to provide a reference for future public health intervention strategies.\n\nStudies on H. pylori prevalence in Pacific Island nations have shown varying infection rates. For example, the prevalence among adults has been reported at around 60-70% in some regions, such as Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, with lower rates observed in urbanized areas of Fiji and higher rates in rural communities.
