The investigators seek to understand the emotional and cognitive aspects of this experience, through semi-structured interviews, self-report questionnaires, and cognitive tasks. The study will take a few hours and is conducted remotely, allowing for participation regardless of the participant's physical location. There is practically no aggregate information on this experience, with most current information relying on case reports and medical record review. The investigators hope to provide greater insights into this experience to guide support for individuals going through this difficult process.","Adults with a persistent experience of infestation or parasite that physicians or other professionals report no evidence for.",[47],{"label":48,"type":40,"description":40,"interventionNames":49},"PPDI Group",[50],"Other: No intervention - observational study",[52],{"type":6,"name":53,"description":54,"armGroupLabels":55,"otherNames":40},"No intervention - observational study","This study will not involve an intervention.",[48],[57],{"name":58,"affiliation":5,"role":59},"Julia Sheffield, PhD","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[61],{"name":62,"role":63,"phone":64,"phoneExt":40,"email":65},"Sheffield Lab","CONTACT","(615) 686-2488","sheffieldlab.vumc@gmail.com",[67],{"facility":5,"status":68,"city":69,"state":70,"zip":71,"country":72,"countryCode":73,"cosmosGeoPoint":74,"geoPoint":79,"contacts":80},"RECRUITING","Nashville","Tennessee","37212","United States","US",{"type":75,"coordinates":76},"Point",[77,78],-86.78444,36.16589,{"lat":78,"lon":77},[81],{"name":62,"role":63,"phone":64,"phoneExt":40,"email":65},{"type":59,"investigatorFullName":83,"investigatorTitle":84,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":40,"oldOrganization":40},"Julia Sheffield","Assistant Professor","100658372","the-parasite-and-infestation-study-100658372",false,"NCT07849907","The Parasite and Infestation Study","Understanding the Experience of Patient-Physician Diagnostic Incongruency: I Know Something is Wrong But No One Believes Me","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Men and women aged 18-70 years old\n* At least 50% certain that they have an active infection\u002Finfestation\u002Fparasite, despite being told by doctor that they do not\n* Ability to read and speak English\n* Access to a computer or phone for virtual visit\n* No self-reported history of schizophrenia-spectrum disorder\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Active substance use disorder (excluding nicotine and caffeine)\n* History of severe head trauma\n* Current use of antipsychotics\n* Serious medical or neurological illness known to interfere with cognitive functioning\n* Diagnosis of a learning disability or cognitive disorder","ALL","18 Years","70 Years",{"count":96,"type":97},25,"ESTIMATED","OBSERVATIONAL","Many people have evidence of bugs, parasites, and infestation, but are told by others that they cannot find a cause.
