Chronic knee pain due to OA is a debilitating disease. Many therapeutic options have been used to manage this pain such as physical therapy, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), tramadol, opioids, intraarticular hyaluronic acid, and steroids.\n\nRadiofrequency ablation (RFA) appears to be effective for treatment of knee pain. It acts by interrupting the pain conduction through production of a thermal lesion to interrupt nociceptive signals.\n\nA diagnostic genicular nerve block with local anesthetic is performed before genicular nerve RFA, and a positive result indicates the need for genicular RFA In conventional monopolar RFA (MRFA) technique, the localization of genicular nerves is one through sensory stimulation at the junction of epicondyle with the shaft of femur bone (near periosteum).",[31,37],{"label":32,"type":33,"description":34,"interventionNames":35},"Unipolar RFA (URFA) Group","EXPERIMENTAL","Patients will undergo radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of three genicular nerves (superior medial, superior lateral and inferior medial) with one cannula.",[36],"Procedure: Unipolar radiofrequency ablation",{"label":38,"type":33,"description":39,"interventionNames":40},"Bipolar RFA (BRFA) Group","Patients will undergo radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as unipolar RFA but with two cannulas.",[41],"Procedure: Bipolar radiofrequency ablation",[43,47],{"type":44,"name":45,"description":34,"armGroupLabels":46,"otherNames":20},"PROCEDURE","Unipolar radiofrequency ablation",[32],{"type":44,"name":48,"description":39,"armGroupLabels":49,"otherNames":20},"Bipolar radiofrequency ablation",[38],[51],{"name":52,"role":53,"phone":54,"phoneExt":20,"email":55},"Mohammed S Elsharkawy, MD","CONTACT","00201148207870","mselsharkawy@med.tanta.edu.eg",[57],{"facility":5,"status":58,"city":59,"state":60,"zip":61,"country":62,"countryCode":63,"cosmosGeoPoint":64,"geoPoint":69,"contacts":70},"RECRUITING","Tanta","El-Gharbia","31527","Egypt","EG",{"type":65,"coordinates":66},"Point",[67,68],31.00192,30.78847,{"lat":68,"lon":67},[71],{"name":52,"role":53,"phone":54,"phoneExt":20,"email":55},{"type":73,"investigatorFullName":74,"investigatorTitle":75,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":20,"oldOrganization":20},"PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR","Mohammed Said ElSharkawy","Lecturer of Anesthesiology, Surgical Intensive Care and Pain Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University, Tanta, Egypt.","100653662","unipolar-versus-bipolar-radiofrequency-ablation-in-knee-osteoarthritis-pain-100653662",false,"NCT07789340","Unipolar Versus Bipolar Radiofrequency Ablation in Knee Osteoarthritis Pain","Unipolar Versus Bipolar Radiofrequency Ablation in Knee Osteoarthritis Pain: A Randomized Single-Blinded Trial","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Age \\> 50 years.\n* Both genders.\n* Diagnosed with chronic knee osteoarthritis (KOA) according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria and confirmed with plain radiography as the gold standard for the diagnosis of KOA.\n* One chronic KOA pain not responding to other treatments as physiotherapy, oral analgesics, and intraarticular injection with hyaluronic acids or steroids.\n* Kellgren-Lawrence grade (II-IV).\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Chronic knee pain induced by infection, inflammation, tumors, and fractures.\n* Prior knee surgery.\n* Acute knee pain.\n* Connective tissue diseases.\n* Neurologic or psychiatric disorders.\n* Intra-articular knee corticosteroid or hyaluronic acids in the past 3 months.\n* Anticoagulant medication.\n* Local infection of the site of intervention.\n* Cognitive impairment.","ALL","50 Years",{"count":86,"type":87},64,"ESTIMATED","INTERVENTIONAL",[90],"NA","This study aims to compare the efficacy of unipolar versus bipolar radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in knee osteoarthritis pain.",[93,94,95,96],"Bipolar Radiofrequency Ablation","Unipolar Radiofrequency Ablation","Knee Osteoarthritis","Pain","2026-08-29",{"date":99,"type":100},"2026-09-01","ACTUAL",{"date":97,"type":87},{"date":103,"type":87},"2027-06-01",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
