Microbiological samples are collected before root canal preparation, after chemomechanical preparation, and after intracanal medication. Bacterial levels are measured using Real-Time PCR. The main objective is to determine which intracanal medicament provides a greater reduction in the total bacterial load after a 7- to 10-day medication period.",[28],"Acute Apical Abscess",[30,31,32,33,34,35,36],"Endodontic Infection","Root Canal Treatment","Intracanal Medicament","Calcium Hydroxide","Calcium Silicate","Real-Time PCR","Bacterial Load","RECRUITING","2026-09-09",{"date":40,"type":41},"2026-09-14","ACTUAL",{"date":43,"type":41},"2025-09-15",{"date":45,"type":22},"2027-01",{"name":47,"class":48},"Ataturk University","OTHER",1,{"id":51,"slug":52,"hasResults":11,"nctId":53,"briefTitle":54,"officialTitle":55,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":56,"healthyVolunteers":57,"sex":17,"minAge":18,"maxAge":58,"enrollmentInfo":59,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":23,"phases":61,"briefSummary":63,"conditions":64,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":37,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":66,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":67,"startDateStruct":69,"completionDateStruct":71,"leadSponsor":73,"locationsCount":49},"100459701","phase-2-valacyclovir-in-pain-management-of-acute-apical-abscesses-100459701","NCT05266040","Valacyclovir in Pain Management of Acute Apical Abscesses","Role of Herpesviruses as a Causative Factor in Acute Apical Abscess","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patient must be ≥ 18-year-old\n* Patient must be systemically healthy; American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Class I or II\n* Patient must exhibit clinical evidence of pulp necrosis and acute apical abscess\n* Patient must present with radiographic\n* signs of apical disease either by\n* periapical radiography or cone-beam\n* computed tomography\n* Patient consented to receive conventional pulpal debridement, incision and drainage at the end of the study\n* Persistent pain of moderate or higher level (\\>4) was the main inclusion criterion.
