It is uncertain whether every child needs this routine visit or whether follow-up can be guided by the family's concerns and the child's recovery. AFTERCARE is a multicenter pilot randomized trial comparing these two follow-up recommendations for children hospitalized with an acute infection.\n\nFamilies will be assigned by chance to receive either a recommendation to arrange follow-up with their usual outpatient clinician within seven days or a recommendation to seek follow-up if the child is not improving as expected or new concerns arise. Families in both groups may seek medical care whenever needed. The study will assess recruitment, follow-up data collection, delivery of the recommendations and acceptability. Caregiver surveys and medical record review will also describe outpatient visits and hospital returns. This pilot will inform the design of a larger trial, and is not designed to establish that the strategies are equally safe or effective.",[28,29,30,31,32],"Children With Medical Complexity","Respiratory Tract Infections (RTI)","Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)","Acute Gastroenteritis","Skin and Soft Tissue Infection",[34,35,36,37],"Pediatric hospitalization","Postdischarge follow-up","Caregiver-directed care","Feasibility trial","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-10-04",{"date":41,"type":42},"2026-10-08","ACTUAL",{"date":44,"type":22},"2026-10",{"date":46,"type":22},"2028-09",{"name":48,"class":49},"Seattle Children's Hospital","OTHER",1,{"id":52,"slug":53,"hasResults":11,"nctId":54,"briefTitle":55,"officialTitle":56,"acronym":57,"eligibilityCriteria":58,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":59,"maxAge":60,"enrollmentInfo":61,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":23,"phases":63,"briefSummary":66,"conditions":67,"keywords":68,"overallStatus":73,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":74,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":75,"startDateStruct":77,"completionDateStruct":79,"leadSponsor":81,"locationsCount":50},"100526612","phase-1-fortified-oral-rehydration-therapy-for-pediatric-diarrhea-100526612","NCT06137014","Fortified Oral Rehydration Therapy for Pediatric Diarrhea","Reduction of Severity and Duration of Pediatric Gastroenteritis Through Amino Acid Fortified Oral Rehydration Therapy","fORT","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Between the ages of 6 months and 5 years.\n* Experiencing mild to moderate acute gastroenteritis for less than two (2) days before admission to Pediatric Emergency Department.\n* Diarrhea presumed infectious\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Severe gastroenteritis with moderate to severe dehydration\n* Requiring inpatient care\n* Requiring antibiotics\n* Requiring IV rehydration\n* History of chronic diarrhea\n* Presenting with diarrhea for greater than 2 days prior to admission\n* Allergy to any of the ingredients in the study products\n* Inborn metabolic disorder of amino acids\n* Receives post-pyloric feedings","6 Months","5 Years",{"count":62,"type":22},72,[64,65],"PHASE1","PHASE2","The goal of this clinical trial is to compare amino acid-fortified oral rehydration therapy (ORT) to the standard of care ORT in pediatric patients with acute gastroenteritis (AGE).
