Often, retained blood and clots in the stomach make it difficult for the endoscopist to clearly see the stomach's anatomical structures.\n\nThis study aims to evaluate if administering a medication called Trimebutine Maleate before the endoscopy can help empty the stomach of residual blood and improve the doctor's view. Trimebutine Maleate is a widely prescribed medication that regulates gastrointestinal movement and has a favorable safety profile compared to other medications used for this purpose.\n\nResearchers will include 100 adult patients experiencing acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding who are scheduled for an urgent endoscopy within 24 hours of presentation. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either 50 mg of intravenous Trimebutine Maleate or a matching placebo (saline solution) 60 to 90 minutes before their procedure. All participants will continue to receive standard medical treatment for their bleeding according to normal hospital protocols.\n\nThe primary goal of the study is to compare the clarity of the stomach view between the two groups using a standardized Gastric Visualization Score. The research team will also measure how often the exact bleeding source is successfully identified, the total duration of the procedure, and whether patients require a repeat endoscopy or a stomach washout (gastric lavage).",[27,28,29],"Acute Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding","Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding","Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage",[31,32,33,34,35],"Trimebutine Maleate","Trimebutine","Gastric Visualization","Endoscopy","Esophagogastroduodenoscopy","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-08-01",{"date":39,"type":40},"2026-08-06","ACTUAL",{"date":42,"type":20},"2026-09",{"date":44,"type":20},"2027-10",{"name":46,"class":47},"Assiut University","OTHER",{"id":49,"slug":50,"hasResults":11,"nctId":51,"briefTitle":52,"officialTitle":52,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":53,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":17,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":54,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":21,"phases":56,"briefSummary":58,"conditions":59,"keywords":61,"overallStatus":68,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":69,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":70,"startDateStruct":72,"completionDateStruct":74,"leadSponsor":76,"locationsCount":78},"100518504","timing-of-endoscopy-in-cirrhotic-patients-with-acute-variceal-bleeding-100518504","NCT06031402","Timing of Endoscopy in Cirrhotic Patients with Acute Variceal Bleeding","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n1. patients with AUGIB which is highly suspected to be caused by gastroesophageal variceal rupture;\n2. patients with a diagnosis of liver cirrhosis based on imaging and pathology;\n3. patients and\u002For their relatives who sign informed consents;\n4. patients' age ≥18 years.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n1. patients who have undergone endoscopy at other hospitals before admissions;\n2. patients' hemodynamics are unstable after resuscitation;\n3. patients with severe cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases or renal injury;\n4. patients who have taken anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs within 2 weeks before admissions, or are diagnosed with severe hematological diseases;\n5. patients with human immunodeficiency virus or other acquired or congenital immune deficiency diseases;\n6. patients with mental illness;\n7. pregnancy.",{"count":55,"type":20},368,[57],"NA","Endoscopy is important for the diagnosis and treatment of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB), especially acute variceal bleeding (AVB), in patients with liver cirrhosis.
