There is evidence that distractibility is associated with a decreased level of serotonin. This research aims to see if giving people 5-HTP will alter their distractibility, which will form part of an initial assessment as to whether 5-HTP could be used to support people with attention problems. The study involves completing a short survey about mental health and behaviours, and if eligible, participation in an in-person study at the University of Sheffield. The in-person session involves completing some cognitive tasks to look at eye movement, taking 5-HTP or a sugar tablet with no active ingredients, and then completing the tasks again after a 90-minute wait.",[28,29,30],"Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)","Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Adults","Attention Deficits",[32,33,34,35,36,37],"5-Hydroxytryptophan","Serotonin","ADHD","microsaccades","eye tracking","attention","RECRUITING","2026-08-18",{"date":41,"type":42},"2026-08-20","ACTUAL",{"date":44,"type":42},"2025-11-25",{"date":46,"type":22},"2027-06",{"name":48,"class":49},"University of Sheffield","OTHER",1,{"id":52,"slug":53,"hasResults":11,"nctId":54,"briefTitle":55,"officialTitle":55,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":56,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":57,"maxAge":58,"enrollmentInfo":59,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":23,"phases":61,"briefSummary":62,"conditions":63,"keywords":68,"overallStatus":70,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":71,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":72,"startDateStruct":74,"completionDateStruct":76,"leadSponsor":78,"locationsCount":50},"100576937","the-effect-of-aromatherapy-applied-to-children-aged-9-12-on-exam-anxiety-attention-deficit-and-academic-success-100576937","NCT06791785","The Effect Of Aromatherapy Applied To Children Aged 9-12 On Exam Anxiety, Attention Deficit and Academic Success","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Must be between the ages of 9-12\n* Must have family permission to participate in the study\n* Must have children who can give consent to participate in the study\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Having a chronic disease related to the respiratory system\n* Being allergic to lemon or lavender aroma\n* Being a child with special needs\n* Being included in an Individualized Education Program (IEP)\n* Developing any problems during the application","9 Years","12 Years",{"count":60,"type":22},66,[25],"This study was planned to examine the effects of aromatherapy applied to children aged 9-12 on exam anxiety, attention deficit and academic success.
