Some of this fluid can move into the tissues around the shoulder and neck and cause swelling. During general anesthesia, a breathing tube is placed in the windpipe. This tube has a small inflatable balloon, called a cuff, whose pressure may increase when the surrounding tissues swell.\n\nThe purpose of this study is to determine whether larger amounts of irrigation fluid used during shoulder arthroscopy are associated with greater increases in breathing tube cuff pressure and neck soft tissue thickness.\n\nAbout 60 adults undergoing planned shoulder arthroscopy in the beach-chair position will take part. The study will not change the participants' anesthesia, surgery, or treatment. Researchers will record the amount of irrigation fluid used, measure cuff pressure at set times during surgery, and measure the neck before and after surgery using ultrasound and a measuring tape. Sore throat, hoarseness, and other airway symptoms will be assessed after surgery. Participants will be followed until six hours after surgery.",[25,26,27],"Shoulder Arthroscopy","Endotracheal Tube Cuff Pressure","Neck Soft Tissue Edema",[29,30,31,32,33,34,35,36,37],"irrigation fluid volume","fluid extravasation","endotracheal tube cuff pressure","anterior neck soft tissue thickness","neck ultrasonography","beach-chair position","cervical soft tissue edema","postoperative sore throat","hoarseness","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-09-25",{"date":41,"type":42},"2026-10-01","ACTUAL",{"date":44,"type":21},"2026-10-15",{"date":46,"type":21},"2027-03-15",{"name":48,"class":49},"Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital","OTHER",1,{"id":52,"slug":53,"hasResults":11,"nctId":54,"briefTitle":55,"officialTitle":56,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":57,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":16,"minAge":17,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":58,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":22,"phases":4,"briefSummary":60,"conditions":61,"keywords":63,"overallStatus":38,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":39,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":66,"startDateStruct":68,"completionDateStruct":69,"leadSponsor":71,"locationsCount":50},"100657848","effect-of-loss-of-resistance-syringe-training-on-endotracheal-tube-cuff-pressure-100657848","NCT07844486","Effect of Loss-of-Resistance Syringe Training on Endotracheal Tube Cuff Pressure","Effect of Training in the Loss-of-Resistance Syringe Technique on Optimizing Endotracheal Tube Cuff Pressure: A Prospective Before-and-After Study","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Age 18 years or older.\n* Undergoing general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation in the operating rooms of Kayseri City Hospital.\n* Able to communicate and undergo postoperative pain assessment.\n* Only the first surgical procedure for each patient is included.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Neurological, psychiatric or cognitive impairment preventing communication.\n* Surgery that may independently affect postoperative sore throat, such as ear, nose and throat surgery or upper gastrointestinal surgery.\n* Three or more laryngoscopy attempts during intubation.\n* Nasotracheal intubation.\n* Use of a double-lumen endotracheal tube.\n* Intubation lasting longer than three hours.",{"count":59,"type":21},180,"This study will examine whether training the anesthesia team in a loss-of-resistance syringe technique is associated with improved breathing-tube cuff pressure in adults having surgery at Kayseri City Hospital. The cuff is an inflatable seal around the breathing tube. Pressure that is too high or too low may cause problems.\n\nApproximately 180 adults will be observed during a two-week period before staff training and a two-week period after training. The treating clinical team will independently choose how to inflate each cuff as part of routine care; researchers will not assign patients to a technique. A researcher independent of the treating team will measure cuff pressure and will learn which technique was used only after the measurement.\n\nThe main outcome is the percentage of patients whose first measured cuff pressure is within 20-30 cmH2O, compared between the periods before and after training. Pressures outside this range will be corrected for patient safety after the first measurement is recorded.
