In particular, reliance on BMI alone may lead to the exclusion of patients who could safely benefit from surgery, while failing to identify others at increased risk due to unfavourable local anatomical factors. Pre-tubercular subcutaneous fat thickness (PTFT) offers a simple, reproducible, and anatomically relevant measurement that directly reflects the soft tissue envelope at the operative site. As such may provide a more clinically meaningful assessment of infection risk than BMI. This study aims to evaluate the association between PTFT and postoperative infection following TKA. By doing so, it seeks to determine whether PTFT could serve as an adjunct or alternative risk stratification tool in clinical practice.\n\nThe findings of this study have the potential to inform a more individualized approach to patient selection and preoperative counselling, improving shared decision-making and resource utilisation.",[25,26,27,28,29],"Knee Arthritis Osteoarthritis","Knee Replacement Arthroplasty","BMI","Regional Body Composition","Periprosthetic Infection",[31,32,33,27,34],"Total Knee Replacement","Knee Arthritis","Regional anatomy","Periprosthetic infection","NOT_YET_RECRUITING","2026-08-10",{"date":38,"type":39},"2026-08-13","ACTUAL",{"date":41,"type":21},"2026-08-17",{"date":43,"type":21},"2027-02",{"name":45,"class":46},"East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust","OTHER",{"id":48,"slug":49,"hasResults":11,"nctId":50,"briefTitle":51,"officialTitle":51,"acronym":52,"eligibilityCriteria":53,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":54,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":55,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":57,"phases":58,"briefSummary":60,"conditions":61,"keywords":63,"overallStatus":67,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":68,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":69,"startDateStruct":71,"completionDateStruct":73,"leadSponsor":75,"locationsCount":77},"100593245","remote-monitoring-after-knee-replacement-surgery-100593245","NCT07003932","Remote Monitoring After Knee Replacement Surgery","OA-AID TKR","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Men and women, 50 years of age or older\n* Referred to total or unicondylar knee replacement surgery due to knee osteoarthritis\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Revision of previous knee replacement surgery\n* Serious comorbidities (such as severe malignancies, severe diabetes mellitus, severe infections, uncontrollable hypertension, severe cardiovascular disease, severe respiratory disease)\n* Congitive dysfunction\n* Knee replacement surgery due to trauma or inflammatory joint disease (such as psoriatic arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis)\n* Unable to understand Norwegian\n* Low digital competency\u002F cannot answer questionnaires digitally (lack BankID, do not possess a smartphone)\n* Deemed inappropriate for remote monitoring by orthopedic surgeon","50 Years",{"count":56,"type":21},140,"INTERVENTIONAL",[59],"NA","The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effect, cost-effectiveness, safety and satisfaction with replacing standardized, pre-scheduled face-to-face visits with remote monitoring and video consultations or face-to-face consultations only when needed after knee replacement surgery due to knee osteoarthritis.\n\nThe primary outcome is the probability of being a OMERACT-OARSI responder at 6 months post-surgery. Controversy remains about whether there is a correlation between articular noise and worse outcomes following a knee replacement. A study by Nam et al. on 1540 patients revealed an association between noise and residual symptoms 30 days after they received a total knee replacement. Conversely, a study by Kuriyama et al. on 60 patients revealed no correlation between noise and patient satisfaction after 1 year of receiving a total knee replacement. The incidence of noise following a knee replacement has rarely been studied as a primary outcome. Like pain, it could be considered an important patient-reported outcome to assess patient satisfaction. The study aims to compare the prevalence of patient-perceived noise of an ultra-congruent total knee prosthesis (Score 2, Amplitude) versus a posterior-stabilized total knee prosthesis (Anatomic, Amplitude).",[91,26,92],"Knee Osteoarthristis","Knee Replacement, Total",[94,95,96,97,31,98],"Noise","Articular noise","Total Knee Arthroplasty","TKA","TKR","2026-03-02",{"date":101,"type":39},"2026-03-04",{"date":103,"type":39},"2025-12-24",{"date":105,"type":21},"2028-12",{"name":107,"class":46},"Elsan",{"id":109,"slug":110,"hasResults":11,"nctId":111,"briefTitle":112,"officialTitle":113,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":114,"healthyVolunteers":115,"sex":17,"minAge":18,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":116,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":57,"phases":118,"briefSummary":119,"conditions":120,"keywords":123,"overallStatus":67,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":127,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":128,"startDateStruct":130,"completionDateStruct":132,"leadSponsor":134,"locationsCount":77},"100590494","investigating-patient-satisfaction-with-smart-knee-implants-100590494","NCT06968143","Investigating Patient Satisfaction With Smart Knee Implants","Evaluating the Impact of Remote Therapeutic Monitoring on Knee Arthroplasty Recovery","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients over 18 years of age\n* Patients undergoing unilateral primary or revision total knee arthroplasty with the smart knee implant or standard-of-care\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients who receive contralateral knee replacement or contralateral or unilateral hip replacement within 90 days before or after their knee replacement in this study\n* Patients with post-operative weight-bearing restrictions or physical deconditioning prohibiting routine physical therapy participation",true,{"count":117,"type":21},150,[59],"The main goal of this study is to see if there is a connection between the social and economic resources available in a patient's neighborhood (measured by the Area Deprivation Index, ADI) and their recovery after knee replacement surgery, as tracked through remote monitoring.
