Electroacupuncture at the Zusanli acupoint (ST36) may regulate inflammatory responses, but its clinical effects in patients undergoing cardiac surgery remain uncertain.\n\nThis prospective, randomized, parallel-group study will enroll 140 adults undergoing elective cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. After surgery and admission to the intensive care unit, participants will be randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either bilateral ST36 electroacupuncture or a control procedure involving the same acupoint localization, skin disinfection, needle insertion, and needle retention without electrical stimulation. Both groups will receive standard postoperative care. The intervention will be administered twice for 30 minutes per session.\n\nThe primary outcomes are C-reactive protein levels and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores on postoperative day 2. Secondary outcomes include the duration of vasoactive drug use, incidence and severity of systemic inflammatory response syndrome, duration of mechanical ventilation, length of intensive care unit and hospital stay, and perioperative inflammatory markers. The study will evaluate whether ST36 electroacupuncture can reduce postoperative inflammation and organ injury and improve recovery after cardiac surgery.",[27,28,29],"Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS)","Cardiac Surgical Procedures","Postoperative Complications (Cardiopulmonary)",[31,32,33,34,35,36,37],"Electroacupuncture","Zusanli","ST36","Cardiopulmonary Bypass","Postoperative Inflammation","Sequential Organ Failure Assessment","Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome","RECRUITING","2026-09-03",{"date":41,"type":42},"2026-09-08","ACTUAL",{"date":44,"type":21},"2026-09-01",{"date":46,"type":21},"2027-05-01",{"name":48,"class":49},"Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital","OTHER",1,{"id":52,"slug":53,"hasResults":11,"nctId":54,"briefTitle":55,"officialTitle":55,"acronym":4,"eligibilityCriteria":56,"healthyVolunteers":11,"sex":17,"minAge":18,"maxAge":4,"enrollmentInfo":57,"targetDuration":4,"studyType":22,"phases":59,"briefSummary":60,"conditions":61,"keywords":4,"overallStatus":65,"whyStopped":4,"lastUpdateSubmitDate":66,"lastUpdatePostDateStruct":67,"startDateStruct":69,"completionDateStruct":71,"leadSponsor":73,"locationsCount":4},"100628314","implementation-of-timely-management-of-sepsis-and-septic-shock-protocol-in-the-emergency-department-and-intensive-care-unit-a-quality-improvement-project-at-afhj-100628314","NCT07460024","Implementation of Timely Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock Protocol in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit: A Quality Improvement Project at AFHJ","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Adult patients aged 18 years or older.\n* Clinical suspicion of sepsis or a confirmed diagnosis of sepsis upon admission to the Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU).\n* Presence of symptoms meeting the criteria for the sepsis management protocol during the study period.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients transferred from other healthcare facilities after sepsis treatment had already been initiated.\n* End-of-life cases or patients with \"Do Not Attempt Resuscitation\" (DNAR) status where data sets are incomplete.\n* Cases with insufficient medical documentation that prevents accurate outcome measurement or bundle compliance tracking.",{"count":58,"type":21},120,[24],"Study Title: Implementation of a Sepsis Management Protocol at Armed Forces Hospital Jazan (AFHJ).\n\nPurpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project is to determine if implementing a standardized, evidence-based \"sepsis bundle\" can improve the care and survival of patients with sepsis and septic shock in the Emergency Department (ED) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).\n\nWhat the Study Involves:\n\nResearchers will implement a specific set of clinical guidelines based on the international Surviving Sepsis Campaign.
