About this trial

This randomized, two-arm, parallel-group clinical trial is designed to compare French Contrast Training (FCT) with Oregon Circuit Training (OCT) for improving explosive strength, lower-limb power, and agility in competitive football players aged 16 to 25 years. Twenty-six participants are planned. Both interventions are delivered three times per week for 8 weeks in approximately 45-minute supervised sessions. Outcomes are assessed at baseline and after the 8-week intervention using vertical jump height, squat one-repetition maximum, and the Agility T-test.

Eligibility criteria

This trial accepts healthy volunteers

Qualifiers

Age 16 to 25 years.

Active competitive or professional football player.

At least 2 years of consistent strength-training experience.

No lower-limb injury during the previous 3 months.

Disqualifiers

Current or recent physical injury or musculoskeletal problem that limits safe participation.

Health problem or medical restriction that prevents participation in exercise training.

Outside the eligible age range.

Unwilling to participate or, for minors, absence of required parental or guardian consent.

Treatments tested in this trial

  • French Contrast Training

    Other intervention

A supervised 8-week strength-and-power training programme delivered three times per week. Each approximately 45-minute session includes dynamic warm-up, a 30-minute French contrast complex combining heavy resistance and plyometric/power exercises, and cool-down. The programme is progressively adjusted according to performance and tolerance.

  • Oregon Circuit Training

    Other intervention

A supervised 8-week circuit-based conditioning programme delivered three times per week. Each approximately 45-minute session includes warm-up, a 30-minute multi-station circuit targeting strength, endurance, agility, and coordination, and cool-down. Work intervals are approximately 30 to 45 seconds with 15 to 30 seconds of rest, and training load is progressively increased.

Trial outcomes

Primary outcomes

1

Change in Vertical Jump Height

Lower-limb explosive power is assessed using the vertical jump test. Standing reach and maximal jump reach are marked on a wall, and jump height is recorded in centimeters as the difference between the two marks. Three trials are performed and the average distance is used. Higher values indicate better explosive power.

Time frame
Baseline (Week 0) and post-intervention (Week 8)
2

Change in Squat One-Repetition Maximum (1RM)

Lower-body maximal strength is assessed using squat 1RM, defined as the heaviest load that can be lifted once with proper form. Where a direct maximal lift is not performed, the synopsis permits estimation from a submaximal set using the Epley formula. Higher values indicate greater lower-limb strength.

Time frame
Baseline (Week 0) and post-intervention (Week 8)
3

Change in Agility T-test Completion Time

Agility is assessed with the Agility T-test, incorporating forward sprinting, lateral shuffling, and backward movement between standardized cones. The best time from three successful trials is recorded in seconds. Lower completion times indicate better agility performance.

Time frame
Baseline (Week 0) and post-intervention (Week 8)
