About this trial

The aim of this protocol is to assess physiological responses during various physical exercise protocols (whole-body exercise such as cycling or treadmill running, or localised exercise such as knee extension) and during inhalation of a gas mixtures with various oxygen contents (similar to exposure at high altitude).

Eligibility criteria

This trial accepts healthy volunteers

Qualifiers

Healthy male or female volunteers

Aged 18-55

Body Mass Index <30 kg/m²

Participants covered by a social security scheme

Disqualifiers

Cardiorespiratory, metabolic and neurological disorders, or other conditions assessed during the inclusion consultation that may affect physiological responses to exercise or hypoxia

Pharmacological treatment taken during the study, other than oral or implantable contraceptive medication for female volunteers of childbearing age

Trial design

Design model

Trial outcomes

Primary outcomes

1

Muscle oxygenation

Measured by NIRS in % saturation

Time frame
During 5 minutes before starting the exercise test, continuously during the exercise test and during 10 minutes immediatly after the end of the exercise test

Secondary outcomes

1

Gas exchange

Oxygen consumption and cardon dioxide production measured at the mouth, measured in ml/min

Time frame
During 5 minutes before starting the exercise test, continuously during the exercise test and during 10 minutes immediatly after the end of the exercise test
2

Heart rate

Measured by ECG in bpm

Time frame
During 5 minutes before starting the exercise test, continuously during the exercise test and during 10 minutes immediatly after the end of the exercise test
3

Limb blood flow

Measured by Doppler ultrasound in ml/min

Time frame
During 5 minutes before starting the exercise test, continuously during the exercise test and during 10 minutes immediatly after the end of the exercise test
