Predictors of Epidural Depth in Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy and Model Development

Accurate estimation of epidural depth is critical for safe epidural anesthesia during percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Although various imaging modalities can predict epidural depth, they increase healthcare burden and are not always feasible in emergency or bedside settings. Identifying simple, easily obtainable clinical parameters-such as sex, age, and body mass index (BMI)-for predicting epidural depth has become a research priority. However, systematic investigations specifically targeting the Chinese population remain scarce. This retrospective study aims to identify independent factors influencing epidural depth in PCNL patients and to develop simple, level-specific predictive models for different puncture sites, thereby providing a practical reference for clinical epidural anesthesia.

Hemodynamic Effects of Surgical Position in Prone vs. Supine Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy

This prospective, randomized controlled study evaluates the hemodynamic effects of prone and supine positions during percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) for large kidney stones. Surgical position may influence intraoperative and postoperative hemodynamic stability. Prone positioning can increase intrathoracic pressure and reduce venous return, whereas supine positioning may provide greater hemodynamic stability. A total of 84 patients will be randomized to undergo PNL in prone or supine positions. Primary outcomes include changes in hemodynamic parameters during surgery. Results may guide surgical position selection, especially in patients with potential hemodynamic risk.

Erector Spinae Block vs Conventional Analgesia for Postoperative Analgesia in PCNL

50 adult patients scheduled for percutaneous nephrolithotomy in Sohag university hospitals will be devided in two groups one of them will receive Sonographic guided erector spinae plane block using 20 ml volume of bupivacaine 0.25 percent and the other will receive conventional analgesia of 0.1 mg/kg IV morphine
