Early Cognitive Interventions in Digital Format for Cancer Survivors

The aim of this study is to evaluate the usability and effectiveness of two professionally supervised home-based cognitive training interventions as part of an early rehabilitation protocol for cancer-related cognitive impairment. Participants will be randomized to one of the two intervention arms (computerized cognitive intervention or virtual reality cognitive intervention) or to the control group. Participants of the intervention groups will be assessed before and after the 10 weeks intervention or at equivalent time points for the control group. Comparisons between experimental and control participants, and between the participants in the two intervention arms, will be carried out to see which intervention is most effective and accepted.

CARAMEL Observational Study

CARAMEL is a project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme. Its aim is to develop a personalized prevention approach based on state-of-the-art artificial intelligence models for cardiovascular risk stratification in women aged 40-60 years. These models are trained using large amounts of multi-source data and complemented by digital self-assessment and self-management tools. The CARAMEL consortium brings together a diverse group of 25 organizations, including technology companies and research centers, clinical institutions, as well as experts in ethics, law, and communication. The CARAMEL-OS study is an observational study aimed at prospectively completing the proposed personalized cardiovascular risk stratification model for women aged 40-60 years that will be developed during the earlier phases of the overall CARAMEL project (https://www.caramel-project.eu/). The study has a purely observational design, and patient stratification will not entail any clinical intervention. The data collected will be used to complete the design of the personalized stratification model, as well as to develop and validate the performance of the predictive models in an independent prospective cohort, distinct from the retrospective cohort initially used. The performance of the models developed using retrospective data will be assessed in terms of accuracy, discrimination, calibration, and other relevant metrics. In addition, the study will enable the development of new predictive models with short-term prediction horizons, incorporating additional variables that are not available retrospectively. The study population will be recruited in four European Union countries: Croatia, Spain (Andalusia and The Basque Country - Gipuzkoa), Greece and Lithuania; and in Colombia. A prospective cohort of 3,000 women aged 40-60 will be recruited, with each partner contributing 500 participants.

Multimorbidity and Polypharmacy in People With HIV vs. the General Population in the Basque Country

People living with HIV now have a life expectancy similar to that of the general population, thanks to major advances in antiretroviral treatment. As they live longer, many of them experience multiple health conditions at the same time and take several medications, often more than people without HIV. In our region, 6,273 people are currently receiving antiretroviral therapy. However, the new care pathway designed for patients with multiple chronic conditions in the Basque Country's public health system does not include people with HIV. At the same time, we lack local data on how common multimorbidity, polypharmacy, and potentially inappropriate prescribing are among this group. These gaps motivated our study. Our goal is to estimate how frequent these issues are among all people with HIV who receive care in the infectious disease departments of the hospitals in Araba, Basurto, Galdakao, Cruces, and Donostia, and to compare them with a similar group of people without HIV. To do this, we designed a cross-sectional study including the 6,273 people with HIV and a control group from the general population, selected to match them by age, sex, and health centre. By analysing data from electronic health records, we aim to determine whether people with HIV have higher rates of multimorbidity, polypharmacy, and inappropriate prescribing than the general population. The findings from both groups will help us update the care pathway and improve coordinated care for HIV-positive patients with multiple health conditions.

Evaluation of the Combined Therapy of EH-301 and N-acetylcysteine Together With Riluzole in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

This study is designed to evaluate whether a combination of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and EH-301 can slow down or improve symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Researchers will assess changes in disease progression using the ALS Functional Rating Scale-Revised (ALSFRS-R), a standard tool for measuring daily functioning in people with ALS. The main question is whether taking NAC together with EH-301 can prevent symptom worsening and possibly improve existing ALS symptoms. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the active combination (NAC + EH-301) or matching placebos for 6 months. During this period, they will attend regular clinic visits for evaluations, tests, and safety monitoring. After completing the initial 6-month phase, all participants may choose to join a 6-month open-label extension, where everyone receives the active treatment regardless of their original group.

Study of the Influence of the Mediterranean Diet on the Quality of Life of Patients With Endometriosis.

The severities of chronic disease symptoms correlate with the levels of analytical parameters of inflammation. Studies have been published in which the Mediterranean diet has an anti-inflammatory phenomenon, decreasing inflammation parameters. This decrease correlates with an improvement in symptoms. Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease and the influence of the Mediterranean diet on the decrease of inflammation parameters in women with endometriosis has been studied. The studies carried out to assess whether this decrease in inflammatory parameters correlates with clinical improvement and quality of life in these patients have low/very low scientific evidence (small sample size, no control group) and with different interventions (diets, restrictions and/or supplements), which prevent their analysis as a whole. Therefore, our hypothesis is that the Mediterranean diet, due to its anti-inflammatory effect, can improve the symptomatology and quality of life of patients with endometriosis.
