Myofascial Release and 20-m Speed in Wheelchair Rugby Athletes With Spinal Cord Injury

This study aims to investigate the effect of myofascial release on sprint performance in wheelchair rugby athletes with spinal cord injury. Participants will complete a 20-meter sprint test on two different days in a randomized crossover design: one day without myofascial release and one day immediately after the intervention. The myofascial release will be applied to the upper limb muscles involved in wheelchair propulsion using a handheld device for 90 seconds per muscle group. Sprint performance will be measured by the time required to complete the 20-meter distance. The study will compare performance between conditions to determine whether myofascial release improves speed.

Neuroscience Education and Spinal Manipulation on Health Locus of Control in Low Back Pain

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of combining Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) with spinal manipulation for individuals suffering from chronic low back pain. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will receive the combined intervention (neuroscience education plus spinal manipulation), while the control group will receive spinal manipulation alone. The primary goal of the researchers is to investigate whether this combined approach can help patients change their health locus of control-shifting from an external belief (that their health depends on external factors or clinicians) to an internal belief (that they have control over their own recovery and pain management). The total study period will last 3 months, consisting of 4 weeks of intervention followed by an 8-week follow-up period to assess long-term changes in pain intensity, disability, and health beliefs.

Efficacy of Cognitive Functional Therapy in Individuals With Chronic Low Back Pain After Spinal Surgery

Chronic low back pain after spinal surgery is a complex and disabling condition influenced by biopsychosocial factors. Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT) is a promising intervention targeting these multidimensional aspects. This randomized, sham-controlled trial aims to compare the efficacy of CFT versus a sham intervention (detuned photobiomodulation) in participants with chronic low back pain after spinal surgery.

There is evidence of three randomized controlled trials that face-to-face CFT reduces disability compared with active interventions for adults with chronic low back pain. The pandemic enabled the popularization of tele rehabilitation around the globe, but there are still no clinical trial testing the effectiveness of Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT) via tele rehabilitation for elderly people with chronic low back pain. The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of CFT compared with Pilates, both via tele rehabilitation in elderly patients with chronic low back pain.

Prevalence of Pain in Mechanically Ventilated Patients in Intensive Care Units

Introduction: Pain is a subjective symptom, a physiological response that is difficult to assess, which affects the body physically and/or emotionally. It is a common phenomenon among clinical and surgical patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU). And its effects are the combined results of physiological and behavioral aggressions caused by clinical conditions, immobility and the execution of common procedures in ICU's. The presence of pain appears to be independently associated with worse clinical outcomes, including higher infection rates, patient-ventilator asynchronies, delirium, prolonged mechanical ventilation (MV), length of hospital stay and higher healthcare costs. Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of pain and its associated factors in mechanically ventilated surgical patients in ICU's. Methods: This is a cohort, prospective, multicenter study designed to estimate the prevalence of pain, its intensity, its associated factors, correlating them to outcomes such as patient-ventilator asynchrony rate, time to weaning, and 28-day mortality in mechanically ventilated patients. All research participants who meet the inclusion criteria and who are not using neuromuscular blockers, or have any other condition associated with altered pain perception, will be evaluated using the Behavioral Pain Scale (BPS) and the Critical Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT) on the 2nd day of mechanical ventilation and on the first day of awakening, when the RASS scale is between 4 and -2. At the same time, data will be collected on the ongoing sedoanalegesia strategy, and the asynchrony index will be calculated \[(Nº of asynchronous ventilatory cycles/Nº of ventilatory cycles studied) \*100\]. The end point of the research will be 28 days, where the time until weaning, time until discharge or death will be established using the Kaplan-Meier estimators. Expected results: The prevalence of pain and its intensity is associated with the presence of patient-ventilator asynchronies and thus with harsh outcomes related to the length of stay in the ICU, time until weaning and thirty-day mortality in the ICU. It is estimated that there is agreement between the BPS and CPOT scales in mechanically ventilated patients.

Rehabilitation of People With Post-tuberculosis Lung Disease

Tuberculosis (TB) can leave numerous sequelae, where survivors experience a transition from an acute illness to living with a multifaceted chronic illness. Post-TB lung disease (PD-PTB) encompasses lung diseases and pathologies that occur after one or more episodes of TB, which can affect the patient's lung health and cause disabling symptoms that strongly affect their long-term health. In 2020, it was estimated that there were 155 million TB survivors still alive worldwide, with a large proportion of them carrying functional sequelae with profound socioeconomic repercussions. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) on functionality and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of people with PD-PTB and to build a PD-PTB severity scoring system based on the data. of pre-RP individuals using artificial intelligence technique.
