Compliance-Guided Abdominal Wall Closure Strategy in Large Ventral Hernia Repair

People undergoing repair of large ventral hernias can develop breathing problems after surgery, especially around the time when the abdominal wall is closed. During closure, pressure inside the abdomen may increase and lung mechanics can worsen. This study will evaluate a structured intraoperative decision approach that uses standard anesthesia measurements of static respiratory system compliance at predefined timepoints to support the choice of abdominal wall closure technique. The main goal is to assess the rate of early postoperative respiratory failure within 72 hours after surgery.

Safety and Effectiveness of Optomesh 3D for Inguinal Hernia Repair

OPTIMUS is an observational study assessing the safety and effectiveness of Optomesh 3D, a shaped surgical mesh used in planned keyhole surgery for a groin (inguinal) hernia. The mesh is placed without additional stitches, tacks, or glue to hold it in position. The study aims to include at least 300 patients from several hospitals. The main question is how often a hernia returns within 12 months after surgery. Researchers will also assess pain, postoperative complications, discomfort in the groin, and the feeling of having a foreign material in the operated area. Participants will provide written consent for the study. Information about their health and operation will be recorded. Follow-up information will be collected through telephone interviews at 7-10 days, 30 days, 3 months, and 12 months after surgery. The results will be assessed in relation to previously published findings on hernia repair.

Patient-Reported Outcomes in Women With Postpartum Abdominal Wall Insufficiency (PPAWIS)

Postpartum abdominal wall insufficiency syndrome (PPAWIS) is a multidimensional condition that may affect physical function, quality of life, body image, and sexual health in women after childbirth. Anatomical findings alone do not fully explain symptom burden or patient experience. This prospective observational cohort study will collect validated patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) from women with PPAWIS receiving routine care. PROMs will be assessed at baseline and during follow-up to describe symptom burden and changes over time. The study aims to improve understanding of the patient-centered impact of PPAWIS and to support development of standardized assessment pathways in clinical practice.
