This study will evaluate a new collaborative elderly hearing-loss service in Hong Kong. The service is based in Family Medicine (FM) and supported by Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist nurses and audiology services. It aims to provide earlier hearing assessment, counselling, hearing-aid referral or fitting where appropriate, and referral to ENT specialists when more complex ear problems are suspected. The study will compare this new service with the existing ENT elderly hearing clinic. About 500 adults aged 65 years or above with progressive hearing loss will be enrolled. Researchers will compare the time to hearing assessment and hearing-related abilities and quality of life score, satisfactory score related to the care in the FM and ENT cohort, compliance to hearing aids, and referral to ENT services. The findings may help determine whether the new service is safe, cost-effective and improves access to hearing care.

The goals of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and the effects of a WhatsApp-assisted prehabilitation for colorectal cancer patients undergoing elective surgery. The main questions are: If the digital prehabilitation is feasible and acceptable by the colorectal cancer patient prior to elective surgery? If this prehabilitation helps to improve the postoperative complications, length of stay, physical activity and psychological well-being for colorectal cancer patients receiving surgery. Researcher will compare the prehabilitation plus standard care to standard care only to see if the prehabiliation helps the colorectal cancer patients. Participants will: 1) enrolled in a approximate 4 weeks (3 episodes/ week) prehabilitation program containing educational information of colorectal cancer, dietary advice, exercises training and psychological podcasting. 2) will answer the survey weekly and after surgery. 3) keep the standard care as per department guidelines

To determine if transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) is a safe and effective procedure compared to traditional open thyroidectomy. Surgical outcomes, patients' satisfaction, voice and swallowing outcomes will be assessed.

Thyroidectomy is a standard procedure for benign and malignant pathologies of the thyroid gland. Each year, some 100 total thyroidectomies are performed in Kowloon East Cluster, Hospital Authority, Hong Kong. Total thyroidectomy is associated with voice dysfunction and temporary hypocalcaemia in up to 80% and 50%, respectively. Previous study from our institute showed a 3% rate of permanent vocal cord palsy and 16% of permanent hypoparathyroidism requiring calcium and/or vitamin D supplements. The use of dexamethasone has been studied in the past in total thyroidectomy patients and has been shown to be safe and effective in improving post-operative nausea and vomiting. No complications or drug related side effects were associated with a single dose of steroid. Recent studies have also shown that Dexamethasone is effective in improving voice outcome and hypocalcaemia in thyroidectomy patients. The investigators aim to study the effect of Dexamethasone in post-operative voice outcome and hypocalcaemia. Objective assessment of the vocal cords during phonation will be performed pre-operative and post-operatively. Serum Calcium level will be monitored.
