Immersive Virtual Reality Versus Conventional Physiotherapy for Shoulder Tendinopathy

Immersive virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a promising tool to support therapeutic exercise by increasing patient motivation, promoting movement through gamification, and potentially reducing pain perception during movement. However, evidence regarding its use in shoulder tendinopathy remains limited. This randomized controlled pilot study will evaluate the clinical efficacy and feasibility of an immersive VR-based exercise program compared with conventional physiotherapy in patients with shoulder tendinopathy. A total of 20 patients referred to the Rehabilitation Department of Hospital Universitario de La Línea de la Concepción will be randomly allocated to either a conventional therapeutic exercise group or an immersive VR-based exercise group. Both interventions will last 4 weeks, with 3 sessions per week, for a total of 12 sessions. The primary outcome will be shoulder pain and disability measured with the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI). Secondary outcomes will include pain intensity, upper limb function, shoulder range of motion, isometric strength, kinesiophobia, and patient satisfaction. Outcomes will be assessed at baseline and immediately after the 4-week intervention

Effects of Chronic Creatine and Beta-Hydroxy-Beta-Methylbutyrate Supplementation on Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, Muscle Strength, and Body Composition in Individuals With Down Syndrome

Purpose: This study will test whether 8 weeks of creatine and HMB supplementation can improve muscle strength, body composition, balance, and overall health in people with Down syndrome. Participants will also receive nutrition tips during the study. Who can participate: People with Down syndrome who can perform basic physical tasks. Must provide consent from the participant and legal guardian. What participants will do: Take creatine (3 g/day) and HMB (3 g/day) or placebo for 8 weeks. Complete tests for muscle strength, balance, and cognitive function. Undergo body composition scans and give blood samples for health markers. Timing: All tests and blood samples are taken before and after each 8-week period. Importance: Results will help determine if creatine and HMB can safely improve strength, balance, and overall health in people with Down syndrome.

Functional Electrostimulation on the Upper Lip in Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease where immune cells attack the body, triggering an inflammatory response. A study comparing multifield FES and conventional FES on upper extremity motor skills and functional independence in MS patients will be conducted. Results suggest that both types of FES treatments normalize muscle tone, showing superior results compared to those without FES therapy. The study aims to compare the effects of both types on MS patients.

Significant Activities in the Integrated Person-centered Care Model

The increasing life expectancy and global aging population necessitate changes in long-term gerontological services based on Person-Centred Care approaches. This study aims to improve Person-Centred Care in geriatric centers through meaningful activities and the role of occupational therapists and direct care professionals in developing these activities. A descriptive cross-sectional quasi-experimental design was proposed, with 10 participants.
