Effect of Oral Laxative Use Before Colorectal Surgery on Intraoperative Surgical Difficulty

This prospective randomized pilot study will evaluate whether the use of an oral laxative before elective laparoscopic colorectal surgery affects small-bowel diameter and intraoperative surgical difficulty. Adult patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic colorectal resection will be randomly assigned to receive either oral laxative plus rectal enema preparation or rectal enema preparation alone. During surgery, the diameters of the jejunum and ileum will be measured using a standardized method. The study will also compare operative difficulty, bowel manipulation time, operation duration, need for additional ports, conversion to open surgery, intraoperative complications, blood loss, and early postoperative outcomes between the two groups. The findings may help clarify whether oral laxative use influences intraoperative conditions during laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Preoperative Sarcopenia and Postoperative Outcomes in Older Patients With Gastrointestinal Cancer

This prospective cohort study aims to evaluate the association between preoperative sarcopenia and postoperative outcomes in patients aged 60 years or older undergoing elective surgery for gastrointestinal cancer. Sarcopenia will be assessed preoperatively using the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2 (EWGSOP2) criteria, including muscle strength, muscle mass, and physical performance, together with the Strength, Assistance with walking, Rise from a chair, Climb stairs, and Falls (SARC-F) questionnaire and calf circumference measurement. Participants will be followed for 90 days after surgery. Postoperative complications, length of hospital stay, and 30-day and 90-day mortality will be evaluated.

Preoperative Frailty and Postoperative Outcomes in Older Patients Undergoing Surgery for Gastrointestinal Cancer

This prospective observational cohort study will evaluate whether preoperative frailty, assessed using the Fried Frailty Index and the Clinical Frailty Scale, is associated with postoperative outcomes in patients aged 60 years or older undergoing elective surgery for gastrointestinal cancer. Participants will be followed for 90 days after surgery. Postoperative complications, length of hospital stay, and mortality at 30 and 90 days will be recorded. The study aims to determine the prognostic value of these frailty assessment tools for identifying patients at increased risk of adverse postoperative outcomes.

Pilot Study of Anesthesiologists' Preoperative Prediction of Postoperative Intensive Care Unit Admission

This prospective observational pilot study will evaluate how accurately anesthesiologists can predict, before a procedure, whether an adult patient will require admission to an intensive care unit (İCU) after surgery or an endoscopic procedure. Before each procedure, the anesthesiologist will record whether postoperative intensive care unit (İCU) care is expected and the clinical factors influencing this assessment. No changes will be made to the patient's usual medical care. After the procedure, the researchers will record whether the patient was admitted to the İCU and whether the admission was planned or unplanned. Additional information, including İCU and hospital length of stay, need for organ support, and in-hospital mortality, will also be collected when applicable. The pilot study will also assess whether the planned data collection process is practical and whether the required study information can be collected completely before conducting the main prospective study.
