About this trial
This observational study aims to compare the predictive performance of the Modified El-Ganzouri Risk Index (MEGRI) incorporating anthropometric ratios with the original El-Ganzouri Risk Index (EGRI) for predicting difficult intubation in obese adult patients undergoing elective general anesthesia.
Eligibility criteria
This trial does not accept healthy volunteersQualifiers
Patient acceptance.
Age: 21-65 years old.
ASA: II,III.
Obese patients (Body Mass Index (BMI) 30-40 kg/m² ) scheduled for elective surgical procedures under general anesthesia
Disqualifiers
Patients undergoing maxillofacial trauma surgery.
Patients with a history of neck surgery or cervical spine instability.
Pregnant patients, and those requiring rapid sequence intubation.
Upper airway pathology or surgery.

Treatments tested in this trial
No intervention
Other interventionThis is an observational study. No study intervention is assigned. Patients receive standard anesthetic care, and preoperative airway assessment and intraoperative intubation outcomes are recorded for comparison of the original and Modified El-Ganzouri Risk Index.
Treatment groups
Trial outcomes
Primary outcomes
Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUC) of the Modified El-Ganzouri Risk Index for Predicting Difficult Intubation
The predictive performance of the Modified El-Ganzouri Risk Index (MEGRI) for difficult intubation will be evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and the area under the curve (AUC).
Secondary outcomes
Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUC) of the Original El-Ganzouri Risk Index for Predicting Difficult Intubation
The predictive performance of the original El-Ganzouri Risk Index (EGRI) for difficult intubation will be evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and the area under the curve (AUC).
Other outcomes
Intubation Difficulty Score (IDS)
The Intubation Difficulty Scale score will be recorded during tracheal intubation. An IDS score greater than 5 will indicate difficult intubation.
Sensitivity and Specificity of the Modified and Original El-Ganzouri Risk Indices for Predicting Difficult Intubation
Difficult laryngoscopy will be defined as a Cormack-Lehane grade III or IV laryngeal view.
