Detection of Infant GastrointEstinal Activity Using Sound Technology

This pilot study aims to evaluate the feasibility and safety of continuous bowel sound monitoring in healthy term newborn infants using a novel wireless acoustic monitoring system. Participants will undergo a single 4-hour recording during routine postnatal care while bowel sounds are continuously recorded using wearable abdominal sensors. Feasibility will be assessed by participant recruitment and study completion, as well as the acquisition of high-quality, analyzable acoustic data. Bowel sounds will be characterized by assessing the temporal and spectral features of bowel sounds during the early neonatal period and exploring their relationship with routine caregiving activities and feeding.

The Value of Bowel Sounds in Evaluating Postoperative Intestinal Function Recovery in Colorectal Cancer Patients

This study enrolls patients scheduled to undergo curative surgery for colorectal cancer. Bowel sounds will be assessed preoperatively and postoperatively. By comparing intraoperative variables, the incidence of perioperative complications, reoperation rates, and postoperative outcomes-including time to first flatus, resumption of oral intake, and occurrence of intestinal obstruction-this study aims to investigate the association between perioperative bowel sounds and postoperative recovery, and provide evidence-based support for the clinical application of bowel sound monitoring. Spectral Analysis of Bowel Sounds in Preterm Babies of Less Than 32 Weeks of Amenorrhea (WA) as Predictive Factor of Enterocolitis

The recording or bowels is easy and cheap. The investigators wonder if these sounds are modified in babies with high risk of necrotizing enterocolitis. In this study, the investigators suggest to record and do a spectral analysis of 30 seconds of bowel sounds in preterm babies of less than 32WA before and after enteral nutrition, every day until the end of hospitalization. A spectral analysis will be made for each record to determine frequencies of the signal. The investigators will try to determine physiological frequencies and look for modifications in pathological situations.
