Smart Nursing AI Agent for Health Self-Management

This study aims to develop and evaluate a smart nursing AI agent to support health self-management among middle-aged and older patients, and further to examine its effectiveness in home care and health self-management. The goal is to propose innovative strategies for middle-aged and older care that enhance the quality of home care and strengthen patients' health self-management abilities. A randomized controlled trial design will be adopted, with a planned enrollment of 102 participants. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group. Regardless of group assignment, their routine medical care will remain unchanged. Both groups will participate in the study for 12 weeks (8 weeks of intervention and 4 weeks of follow-up), with identical frequency and number of follow-ups, interviews, and evaluations. The experimental group will receive an 8 week intervention using the smart nursing AI agent care model, which provides daily interaction, reminder systems, personalized recommendations, activity monitoring, goal setting, motivational support, and health self-management education. The control group will continue with the existing standard health education approach. Data collection will include demographic information, medical history, physiological indicators, functional activity measures (e.g., steps, distance, exercise duration), sarcopenia screening, nutritional assessment, physical activity levels, health self-management ability, health literacy, quality of life, and digital usage behaviors. Statistical analyses will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability of the intervention.

Motor Imagery and Turning Practice to Improve Mobility: Pilot Trial

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate whether combining in-person turning practice with home-based Motor Imagery Therapy (MIT) is feasible and may improve mobility in community-dwelling older adults aged 65 years and older who report balance or turning-related mobility concerns. MIT involves mentally practicing movements and watching movement demonstrations without physically performing the movement. The main questions this study aims to answer are whether it is feasible for older adults to complete a combined in-person and home-based turning and motor imagery program based on attendance, retention, and activity monitor use; whether adding MIT to a turning intervention improves turning performance more than a comparison program focused on stress management education; whether MIT increases daily physical activity, increases walking intensity, and reduces sedentary time in daily life; and whether measures of brain function related to movement control predict how much participants improve following the intervention. Researchers will compare a locomotor turning intervention combined with MIT (Loco+MIT) to a locomotor turning intervention combined with stress management education (Loco+SME) to determine whether MIT leads to greater improvements in mobility and daily activity. Participants will attend five laboratory visits that include mobility testing, brain stimulation assessments, and physical activity assessments. Participants will also complete six weeks of in-person turning practice sessions held twice per week and home-based sessions three times per week consisting of either motor imagery training or stress management education. In addition, participants will wear a physical activity monitor during daily life to measure movement and sedentary behavior and will complete follow-up assessments after the intervention to evaluate changes in mobility and activity over time.

Developing a Balance Rehabilitation System for Older Adults, Based on IMU and AI: Personalized Training and Preventive Strategies

The aging physiological state of the elderly may lead to problems such as unstable gait, balance disorders, and falls. Previous research has confirmed that exercise training can help improve the physical function, quality of life, and reduce the risk of falls in the elderly. In order to achieve effective and continuous intervention training, somatosensory games have become a trend in recent years. Among them, the use of non-immersive virtual reality training methods not only provides training for the elderly, but also reduces the discomfort caused by the virtual environment; however, there are some limitations in clinical rehabilitation training methods, such as the lack of data-based evaluation and personalization. In order to solve the above problems, this research plan will use the inertial measurement unit as a tool for clinical monitoring and human movement assessment, and use artificial intelligence technology to evaluate and adjust the training plan according to its gait characteristics to achieve personalization Training and prevention strategies.

Validating a Multifactorial Algorithm to Predict Fall Risk in Community Dwelling Older Persons Aged 65 Years or Older

Falls in older adults have an annual incidence between 23 and 34% for persons of 65 years and older. The lack of transfer of promising research results on falls prevention to daily practice may have several explanations. One of the first concerns for that matter may be a valid and sensitive selection of the persons at risk who are eligible for fall prevention interventions Goals of the prospective obeservational study: 1. To validate a new, comprehensive, multifactorial screeningsintrument to predict the risk on falls in community dwelling, Belgian, older adults (\>65years or older). 2. To optimize the new, comprehensive, multifactorial screeningsintrument and to specify correct cut off scores Researchers will compare the data of the accuracy of new algorithm with the current Belgian policy. Participants will participate in a one-time testing moment, where they will be asked some questions about general characteristics and medical history, followed by two questionnaire and seven physical tests . Based on this data, their fall risk will be assessed. In the year that follows, the older person's fall behavior will be monitored with a monthly falls calender. Participant will be asked to fill out these calenders everyday ('Did you fall today?' YES/NO) and send them at the end of each month to the researchers, digitally or postal.

Nationwide Multi-dimensional Health Promotion Program for Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Global organizations advocate for "active" and "healthy aging," emphasizing preventive health promotion. Taiwan's Long-Term Care 2.0 and the National Health Administration's "Healthy Exercise Class" exemplify this. Evaluating these programs' effectiveness is crucial, but complex due to diverse influencing factors. This study focuses on the often-overlooked role of program leaders' facilitation skills in impacting program success. This study investigates the effectiveness of multi-domain community health promotion programs for older adults and its influencing factors. Specifically, it aims to: 1. assess the immediate benefits (objective/subjective health status, satisfaction) for participating older adults. 2. explore related factors (group leadership skills, personal factors) using Andersen's Behavioral Model. A prospective, single-group, pre- and post-test design will be used. Participants (leaders and older adults) will be recruited from "Healthy Exercise Class" sites nationwide. Pre- and post-intervention data will be analyzed to determine program effectiveness. Multiple linear regression will identify influencing factors, including the mediating and moderating effects of leader facilitation skill confidence. The study aims to inform policy improvements for government-led older adult health promotion.
