Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency

The purpose of this study is to collect pancreas fluid from the duodenum using the endoscopic pancreas function collection method in healthy participants after pancreatic stimulation with human secretin.

This study aims to evaluate if a 6-month course of pancrelipase (CREON) treatment improves symptoms of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) after an attack of acute pancreatitis. Diagnosis of EPI is measured by a fecal elastase value of \<200, and patients must have a qualifying symptom burden based on the EPI symptom tracker survey. Blood and stool will be analyzed as part of this study, and other surveys of health status will be used to track improvement of symptoms.

This project uses the Malabsorption Blood Test (MBT) to identify patients with recurrent acute or chronic pancreatitis who have mild to moderate exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. A subgroup of patients who have response to pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy will enter a randomized, placebo-controlled pilot clinical trial for 8 weeks to identify improvements in quality of life (QOL).

The goal of this observational study is to determine the prevalence of pancreatic steatosis in patients with fatty liver and determine the prevalence of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) in these patients. Participants with fatty liver and metabolic syndrome will undergo fecal elastase measurement and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).

The goal of this observational study is to learn about the prevalence of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in patients with functional dyspepsia . . The main questions it aims to answer are: What is the prevalence of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) in patients with functional dyspepsia? Wich are the clinical characteristics associated with (EPI) in patients with functional dyspepsia? Patients diagnosed with functional dyspepsia will undergo an evaluation of clinical symptoms and fecal elastase determination. In those with fecal elastase levels below 100 µg/g, an endoscopic ultrasound and other assessments will be performed to define the cause of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI).
