Aspects of Quality of Life During Adjuvant Oncological Treatment for Locally Advanced Lung Cancer Which Include Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor.

Current oncological treatment for patients with locally advanced lung cancer comprise adjuvant immunotherapy (immune checkpoint inhibitors-ICI) as an additional one-year treatment after chemoradiotherapy which increases overall survival and progression-free survival. Patients with lung cancer have a high burden of distressful symptoms at diagnosis and during chemoradiotherapy. Side-effects from immunotherapy differs, they are unspecific and may develop at any point during treatment. However, it is not investigated thoroughly during adjuvant treatment in locally advanced lung cancer. As new oncological treatments are being introduced, focus must be placed on patients quality of life and how patients endure treatment to be able to know how to best support patients during this treatment. The knowledge gained from this project include how adjuvant immunotherapy treatment impacts health. This knowledge is sparse due to the novelty of the treatment.

Microbiota in Neoadjuvant Chemoimmunotherapy for NSCLC

Locally advanced lung cancer (LALC) has poor prognosis despite multimodal therapies. Neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy is now standard for resectable stage II-IIIB NSCLC, but patient responses vary. The gut microbiota, a key immune regulator, has been linked to immunotherapy efficacy, with microbial diversity predicting ICI response and fecal microbiota transplantation improving outcomes. While most studies focus on advanced disease, the microbiota's role in LALC during neoadjuvant therapy remains unclear. Characterization of Multi-Omics Landscapes and AI Pathological Prediction Model for Long-Term Survival in NSCLC Immunotherapy

This study is a retrospective, multicenter, observational cohort study in patients with advanced or locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of this study was to establish a long-term survival (LTS) versus short-term survival (STS) real-world cohort, to systematically characterize the multi-omics landscapes, and to develop and validate an artificial intelligence (AI) pathological prediction model based on routine H\&E-stained images for predicting immune microenvironment features and long-term survival outcomes following immunotherapy.

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing in Lung Cancer Patients Before and During Oncological Treatment

Patients with lung cancer often have reduced physical fitness and coexisting health problems, which may limit their ability to tolerate oncological treatment. Standard resting lung and heart tests do not always reflect real-life physical capacity during everyday activities or physical effort. This observational study aims to assess cardiorespiratory fitness in patients with lung cancer before and during standard oncological treatment using cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). CPET is a safe, supervised exercise test that provides objective information on how the heart, lungs, and muscles respond to physical effort. Participants with WHO/ECOG performance status 0-2 will undergo CPET before treatment initiation and again after the early phase of therapy or surgery. The results may help identify patients with reduced physiological reserve and support individualized monitoring during routine clinical care.

Fiber-Boost Randomized Controlled Trial

In the present study 'Fiber-Boost', we investigate how a high-fiber diet affects the immunotherapy of advanced lung cancer and what effects it has on the gut microbiome (i.e., the bacteria in the gut) as well as the immune system. Study participants will be assigned to either a test group or a control group. Only patients in the test group will undergo a high-fiber diet. The study lasts 6 weeks per patient and will be conducted at 4 centers within Switzerland. A total of 42 patients are planned to be included in the study.
