Long-Term Recovery and Quality of Life in Sepsis Survivors

The goal of this observational study is to learn about the long-term outcomes and recovery of adult patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with sepsis. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Which patient-related, infection-related and centre-level factors (for example type of pathogen, time to adequate antibiotic therapy, and local sepsis management practices) are associated with poor quality of life six months after ICU admission for sepsis? * How do these factors influence other patient-centred outcomes, such as mortality, psychological and cognitive recovery, functional status and return to work? This is an international, multicentre, prospective observational cohort study. It will consecutively enrol adult patients (18 years or older) admitted to participating ICUs with sepsis, diagnosed by the treating clinician at ICU admission and, where locally available, meeting Sepsis-3 criteria. Participants will: * have clinical data collected from their medical records at ICU admission, on day 7 and at ICU discharge (infection characteristics, organ support, antibiotic therapy, delirium, rehabilitation and centre organisation); * be followed at 28 days (medical record review, or telephone contact if already discharged) and contacted by telephone at 3 months and 6 months after ICU admission for structured assessment of quality of life, psychological and cognitive recovery, functional status, return to work and healthcare utilisation. The study plans to enrol 600 patients in participating ICUs across several countries, coordinated by Geneva University Hospitals (HUG). Findings will help identify modifiable factors that may improve long-term recovery and guide future interventions for sepsis survivors.

Measuring the Effects of Music-Listening On Distress After Intensive Care

The primary goal of this single-case experimental design study is to investigate the effectiveness of personalised music listening on daily levels of distress after discharge from a critical care ward. The study will also aim to understand the effect of personalised music listening on symptoms of post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and health-related quality of life post-discharge. The main questions the study aims to answer are included below. After discharge from critical care, does personalised music-listening: * Reduce psychological distress? * Reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression? * Improve health-related quality of life (HRQoL)? The study will have 3 phases, allowing for participant data gathered during the baseline phase (treatment as usual) to be compared to data gathered during intervention (music-listening) and follow-up phases. Participants will: * rate their distress on a visual analogue scale each day. * listen to a minimum of 30 minutes of self-selected music each day during the intervention phase. * complete measures of mood, anxiety, post-traumatic stress and health-related quality of life at baseline, intervention and follow-up phases.

Post-Intensive Care Syndrome - Multicentre Prospective Registry Database of the DACH Region

Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) refers to long-term cognitive, physical, and psychological impairments that can arise after intensive care treatment. These symptoms may begin within 24 hours of ICU admission and persist for years. Affected patients and their families (PICS-F) face significant burdens, with up to 94% of relatives impacted. Given its high prevalence and socioeconomic impact, this prospective registry study aims to identify risk factors and long-term consequences of PICS and PICS-F. The study consists of six modules, starting with data collection during ICU stays and continuing with follow-ups at various intervals post-discharge (up to five years). The primary goal is to investigate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, while secondary objectives include identifying risk factors, determining impairment severity, and exploring biological mechanisms. Standardized questionnaires and biological samples (blood) are used for data collection.

Behavioral Health Collaborative Care Model in an ICU Recovery Clinic

Survivors of critical illness are at high risk for mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. This single-site, randomized controlled trial at the Medical University of South Carolina will enroll 150 patients to compare outcomes between a behavioral health Collaborative Care Model (BH CoCM) and usual care (attention control). The intervention includes digital tools (Neuroflow), behavioral health coaching, and psychiatric support.

Impact of Persistent Inflammation-Immunosuppression-Catabolism Syndrome (PICS) on the Respiratory Physiology in Patients With Prolonged Mechanical Ventilation

Past research on PICS has mainly focused on the predictability and prognosis of PICS occurrence in ICU patients. Still, there is currently insufficient research on the role of PICS in the care setting of patients who have stabilized and are transferred to respiratory care units such as Respiratory Care Centers (RCCs) for weaning attempts. To understand the impact of PICS on the respiratory physiology of patients undergoing weaning from prolonged mechanical ventilation, investigators propose a one-year research plan
